Background:

IL-18, also known as interferon- inducing factor, is a pro-inflammatory cytokine produced by macrophage and other cells. Like interleukin-12, the expression of IL-18 can be stimulated by bacterial protein lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and can induce the production of interferon- by natural killer cells and certain T-cells. It has also been shown that IL-18 can inhibit the IL-4 dependent IgE and IgG1 production and increase IgG2a expression by B-cells. An interleukin-18-binding protein that is expressed by mononuclear cells, can bind IL-18 and inhibit its pro-inflammatory function. It has been reported that IL-18 is implicated in Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, age-related macular degeneration and Alzheimer’s disease.  

Applications: 

Sandwich ELISA: In combination with human IL-18 capture antibody clone 2A10 (Cat. No.: MO-C40094A), this biotin labeled anti-human IL-18 antibody clone 10H4 can be used for quantitative detection of human IL-18 levels in Sandwich ELISA application.
